Paul Edwards
is Executive Chairman of Merryn Capital, a SA-based corporate advisory and investment house;
Chairman of Emerging Markets Payments Holdings, a 3rd party payments processor; Chairman of MSCC
(Egypt); Vice Chairman of MSCC, a listed Nigerian telecommunications operator; Chairman of Starcomms
Nigeria Communications Holdings (Mauritius); and a director of NASDAQ-listed Net-1 UEPS, a smart
card-based financial services provider.
Previously he was Group CEO of Johnnic Holdings Ltd, a converged media, entertainment and
telecommunications group, as well as Group CEO of MTN, Africa’s largest mobile operator.
Before returning to South Africa in 1999, Paul launched MEASAT Broadcast, a
satellite-broadcasting network based in Kuala Lumpur, and prior to that was Executive
Vice-President of Star TV, an Asia-wide satellite broadcaster based in Hong Kong.
Prior to Star TV he was CEO of Multichoice, the South African pay TV broadcaster.
Paul is a member of the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business Advisory Board
and past member of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Advisory Council
He is also member of Boston University’s African Presidential Roundtable initiative, Chicago
University’s Harris School Dean’s Council and is a director of J.A.M., an African-based NGO that
provides emergency relief and humanitarian aid into Africa.
