OUTSTANDING CSR CULTURE
Starcomms has, over the years, nurtured a sure-footed relationship with all its stakeholders - customers, employees, investors, neighbours, commercial partners and the community, with the overall aim of ensuring a better relationship. In line with its disposition of ‘speaking your language’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts is a core value for Starcomms.

Starcomms recognizes that CSR efforts should not be mere PR campaigns designed to promote corporate brands by creating the appearance of being good corporate citizens; it must impact positively on those affected. This has led to the organization in pursuing several courses that seek to encourage the growth and development of the Starcomms 'people'.

Recently, four tele-centre operators on the network won one million Naira each through a scheme called "Be On Your Own" (BOYO), initiated by Starcomms to encourage and empower small business entrepreneurs in Nigeria. These swelled to 12 the number of millionaires created since the promotion started in October 2007. Also, in this scheme, Starcomms has given out 3 brand new cars and 10 motorcycles.

In 2007, the company supported the crime fighting efforts of the Nigeria Police, FCT Command with 1,000 brand new highly subsidized Virtual Private Network (VFN) lines donated to assist the command in fighting crime. In addition, the company donated an EVDO Rev. A mobile internet connectivity, raincoats, reflective jackets and torch lights to further assist the police in the discharge of its functions.

Starcomms has equally continued to empower Nigerians through the provision of efficient telecommunication services and job creation. For instance, all its CDMA base stations were built by local contractors and are maintained by them.

Other notable CSR activities of the company include:

  • Sponsorship support for the Prof. Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (Print Category)
  • Happy Hour at the Cubes Bar, Silverbird Galleria, Lagos
  • Co-sponsorship of the Nigerian Society for The Blind’s SME Project
  • Co-sponsorship of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations(NIPR),Lagos branch
  • Lead Sponsorship in the , Stars –on- the- runway Fashion show (for charity)
  • Sponsorship of the African Telecomm Development Lecture
  • Co-Sponsorship of the HP SME Lecture/Exhibition
  • Bronze Sponsorship of NICOMM 2007 Securetech Exhibition
  • Sponsorship of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club 2007 Gala Night.
Others include the 2007 Red Ribbon Awards on HIV/AIDS (JAAIDS), and Sponsorship of Senator. Ita-Giwa Band (Seegul) @ 2007 Calabar Carnival, among several others.

In 2008 Bonuzee Promo, Starcomms gave out three Hyundai Accent cars to the winners of the promo and hundreds of motorcycles as part of promo prizes.

Other notable CSR activity in 2008 include:

  • Donation of a computer set with one year internet access to the Public Relations unit of Nigeria Police
  • Sponsorship of Columbia Business School gathering in Lagos
Again in the same year, Starcomms empowered 100 indigent Nigerians, 50 in Benin and 50 in Lagos by providing them with smart centre phones to enable them start businesses on their own.

  • Pacelli School of blind & partially sighted, co-sponsorship
  • Terraculture Art exhibition co-sponsorship
  • Egyptian cultural week in Abuja, co-sponsorship
